A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Maybe I'm being stupid believing this, but I've been eating very, very healthy and exercising a lot over the past week. And I was losing weight, but since I started my period 2 days ago i've noticed I have come to a stop and haven't changed in weight anymore, in fact it looks like i've stopped losing weight and have in fact put some on?

I'm not talking about being bloated on my stomach, I already was aware of that but my mum said that when you're on your period it's harder to lose weight and that apparently I wont see the result of my weight loss until my period is over?

Is this true? Why do you not lose weight during your period and more importantly why would I not see the results until after my period is finished, how does that even work?! Has anyone else experienced, or heard of this?

Around the time of your period or if not when you are on your period you gain water weight. You could be 150lbs before your period, 155lbs (because of the gain in water weight) during your period and drop to 148lbs after your period meaning. which means you are still losing weight but its hard to tell because of the retention.

Stick to your weight loss routine during your period don't be discourage by the fluctuating scale.

(i'm not saying the weights I used are overweight I used those numbers because 150lbs is how much I weigh)

YouWish agony auntIt's not true that you don't lose weight during your period. If you're on an exercise and diet regime, stick to it. However, many women take on extra water weight during a period along with the bloating.

Depending on what your starting weight is, it's conceivable and considered healthy to take off 1-2 pounds per week. Since a period lasts inside of a week, it may feel like the water weight cancels things out.

You'll know if you resume losing weight after your period. If you keep gaining, then there might be some things that could use some adjusting.

Also, the scale is one indicator of lost weight. The other is how well you fit in your clothes.
