 Of course its okay to ask for a girl's number, or anyones number for that matter when you just want to be friends! My only advice is that you make it clear early on that you just want to be friends.

of course it is ok. but as long as she understands that you just want to hang out with her as friends. if you have given her the wrong idea you need to set her straight, before she gets hurt.
