Does anyone think that it is a waste of money going to conventions to get a celebrities autograph and/or get a photo taken with them and go to a talk that some of them do infront of an audience?. I'm not sure if anyone here has ever been to these kind of conventions. I went to one a few years ago, and i am interested in going to another one. It's great meeting celebrities in person, but you don't get much time to speak to them when you get their autograph, and the convention that i am interested in going to is in London, and i am from the north west area of England, so it isn't very close to where i live.I only want to meet a couple of actors there. My boyfriend said that he thinks it's a waste of money, but i'm not sure whether it is or not.

It's £70 for the train fare, the entrance ticket to the convention is £6, the actors autograph costs £15 ( so if i meet two of the actors, it will be £30 ), and i would need about £7 for a travel card to get around London. It does seem like a lot of money though just to go to London for one day and just to talk to one or two of the guests for a short amount of time. I can only go there for one day, as i can't afford a hotel there at the moment, and i would be going there just to stay inside a building all day, as the guest that i want to meet is very popular, so there will be a big queue of people wanting to meet him. I would get to the convention at about 11am and it finishes at 6pm. However, i do enjoy meeting celebrities.

To be honest, i don't really want an autograph. I just want to speak to the guest, but you have to pay for an autograph if you want to meet the guest. I don't know if they will ever come over to the UK again, so this may be the only chance i have to meet them.

Sweet-thing agony auntHow much money does it cost? Personally I think it could be a waste of money but it's no different than any other hobby people spend money on. If you find pleasure doing this, it should be fine to continue as long as you can afford it and you are not being obsessive about the stars you meet. They probably won't fall in love with you, but it sure is fun to dream. I'll take Johnny Depp please.

Honeypie agony auntFor some it might be. Personally, I can't see what I would need an autograph for, but each to their own.

If you can afford to go see them and you enjoy this kind of thing, I see nothing wrong in it either.

Is it a waste of money to spend the day doing something you enjoy, that's not bad for your health and doesn't hurt anyone? Not to me it's not.

Sounds like a hobby to me OP and while it wouldn't be something I would go out of my way to do I did work in a job where I met lots of rock stars and I always got a kick out of that.

I don't see how it would be a waste of money if you're just paying to go have a good time. The only way it would be is if you were severely broke, in debt and struggling to even buy food.

I'm big into soccer and my girlfriend thinks buying replica jerseys etc. is a waste of money but it's my money and it makes me happy so she doesn't care.
