A question for the men: do you prefer women who are pale or women who are tanned? I ask becuase I find that women with tans always seem to get the attention from men and I have pale skin and I often go unnoticed.

bodylotion agony auntHEY CHEER UP IT'S NOT THE END OF THE WORLD.THERE ARE PENTY OF PALE PEOPLE OUT THERE AND PLENTY DARK PEOPLE.WHATEVER YOU DO DON'T USE THE SUNBEDS BUT A THING YOU CAN DO IS GET SOME FOUNDATION AND USE THAT IT WORKS A TREAT.THE BEST TO USE IS THE CREAM OR ANY IT DOESN'T MATTER.YOU COULD ALSO USE THIS ON YOUR ARMS AND LEGS IF YOU WANTED TO.BUT DON'T MAKE YOURSELF LOOK ORANGE AS I SOMETIMES SEE WOMAN WHO HAVE USED THE SUNBED TO MANY TIMES AND THEIR ORANGE.GOOD LUCK WITH THIS AND REALLY DON'T WORRY SO MUCH AS THERE ARE PEOPLE OUT THERE WITH MUCH PALER SKIN THAN YOU.

tux agony auntDon't feel bad about it. If the guy decided to go for her because of her looks, he's not good for you. You shouldn't be with someone that can't look beyond just the looks aspect of things.. He sounds like that type. don't worry about it. There's guys that don't look at a tan as a sign of beauty. I personally can't stand girls with the "look at me I got a tan" look. And I have thought a lot of girls with pale skin looked hot as well.. and you even hit this right on the nail.

"as a teenager i have always kept my skin covered with sunscreen to protect it from the sun and i often get mistaken for being 2 years younger then what i am,"

If they ask if you are sick or something... Be Cheerful, smile big and say.. "Yes, I have the bird flu."

I get that question a lot myself about my arm because I have a fistula in my arm for when I was on kidney dialysis.. People always see my arm and ask, "What's wrong with your arm?" I look at my other arm and say, "I see nothing wrong with it." they say "No the other arm." so I look at it and "where? I don't see anything wrong with it." Then if I can see a laugh instead of a "You're smartass angry look." I explain it to them for the most part. It's their fault for asking :)

thank you everyone for the feed back on my question, the reason i ask is because iv been going to the gym and i have noticed that the paris hilton look alike girls who look like they have just stepped out of a sunbed always get the attention, all the guys stare at them, people try crack on to them, i am very pale and i have used tanning creams, there ok but they dont last long but i must admit i get alot of extra attention when im tanned and i dont act any different. as a teenager i have always kept my skin covered with sunscreen to protect it from the sun and i often get mistaken for being 2 years younger then what i am, but the thing that bugs me the most is when people ask if im feeling ok or if im sick, its so embrassing, my mother is from holland so everyone is pale in my family which suxs, i have looked at going to the sunbeds but i am scared of getting cancer from it so i dont see it as a option, i was going to get a spray on tan but it cost like $40 and it only last 5 days, and i have tried just going to the beach for the day to get a tan, which is ok and it last along time but i burn bad first and it hurts :( although i do come out with a great tan. i think with a tan it also hides cuts, or marks on your skin which i would find very help full. i just dont totally believe that guys like pale chicks as every where i go i get totally ignored, i meet this one guy i was talking to and became good friends with for about 4 weeks and we flirted and then he makes a new female friend and she just happen to look like something that just stepped out of a caldender girl pin up and now im lucky to even get a hello off him, its so depressing i feel like no1 will ever want to date a pale chick like me :(

Over the last 8 weeks, I've gone from pasty-white to slightly tan. I don't think I actually look any sexier, but I feel like I do! It seems that recently I have been noticed a little more frequently. Truthfully though, I think the tan has given me a little confidence boost and that is what really has gotten me the additional attention.

tux agony auntI see a tan as icky.. maybe if it's just a natural tan from just being in the sun from normal routine but not one that is gotten by actually going out of the way to do so.. and I know that going more towards the pale skin girls, when they get older they'd be the really hot looking women because they won't have as many winkles. It depends if you want the payoff now if guys are going for the tan look, or the payoff later... I'd stick to taking the later payoff. You'll see you'd still be able to find a guy.. and if you get into a long term relationship over years and that ends.. you'd still be hot to attract another guy. :) or just keep the one you got. Though we should all love someone for being them rather than how they look, but face it.. looks are what brings people together. But dont fret over that because you'll find people have different tastes in looks and some even see the personality either makes them more beautiful or uglier.. I've seen some girls that many would think as hot but their personality and attitude makes them uglier than a zit on the back of a camel in 120 degree weather crossing the sahara.

I have thought about that too, and I really do think they do get more attention. At the same time, some guys like pale skin. If you want to try to get a tan (since I am pale, and cannot tan-I just burn) try a sunless tanner. Yes, some are orange and streaky, but invest in a good one, or try a lotion that darkens overtime. It lowers the risk of messing up..you cant see it as much. Either way, a guy should like you for who you are, not what color your skin is.

A male reader, harshbutfair United Kingdom +, writes (29 March 2006):

harshbutfair agony auntDon't forget that tanning (especially artificial i.e. sunbed tanning):

1. Causes skin cancer, which can kill you (in Australia 1 in 2, yes one in TWO people will develop skin cancer because of sun exposure).

2. Causes your skin to age.

Pale is pleasant.

Maybe the tanned girls are more outgoing, more prone to take risks. Dress smarter, talk smarter and be all chic and hot (please also ensure your hair is shiny) and you will have men quite literally throwing themselves at your feet.

HBF.
