In love with an old teacher, what should I do next?

A female United States age 30-35, *wordandredrose writes:

I have mentioned my problem before but I had to delete it . I have been in love with one of my teachers for months now. My feelings are a little rare because he is 52 and I am 18! He is not married and has no kids and he looks younger than his age. I have a very good relationship with him and he is very nice to me. However, I don't know how he would react if I tell him that I like him more than a teacher. I know that I have to tell him AFTER I graduate because student-teacher affair is illegal. I am going to graduate in a month. Should I tell him after graduation? I'm scared that he would over react and get very mad and think of me as a stupid girl who tries to get him in trouble. I'm also scared that he would laugh at me and humiliate me. He is very nice to me but he is not a nice person in general. I want a relationship with him and I would do whatever it takes to get it. What should I do?

A male reader, TimmD United States +, writes (21 April 2010):

TimmD agony auntAfter graduation spend 6 months away from him. Prepare for college and get all of your things in order and even try to get him out of your mind. IF, at the end of the 6 months you still feel the same way, then simply contact him at the school and tell him you would like to have dinner with him sometime. This way you are out of school long enough that he or anyone else wouldn't question your motives.

That 6 month period is important, though. Don't do it before.
