Hey,im just wondering when do you ovulate? Is it 14 days after or before your period.? Isn't the same thing, how do you know you are ovulating

If your menstrual cycle lasts 28 days and your period was the 11th and you had sex the 23 could you still get pregnant

This is really confusing help

Most people are confused by this. There's no hard and fast rule, and every woman is different, and not every woman always ovulates at the same point in her cycle.

You're right, the rule of thumb is that you ovulate at the midpoint in your cycle; that the egg is viable for around 24 hours, and sperm can live around three days. But people who rely on that rule of thumb (which used to be called the rhythym method) to avoid pregnancy have around a 20% chance of becomming parents.

The only reliable to know is a though a long process of taking your temperature. You take it daily (perhaps more often) through your cycle to establish a baseline. There's a small change when you ovulate which you can identify when you're very familiar with the baseline. This is a method used by couples trying to get pregnant by natural means -- if you can identify when you ovulate, then you know when your best chance is to get pregnant.

The bottom line: if you're going to be sexually active and do not want to get pregnant, rely on artificial methods of birth control (condoms, the pill, etc.) rather than natural ones.
