A female Egypt age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I have trust issues and support issues with my family.

I live in a conservative country where they see a girl is a half human being, she can live her life and start travelling after marriage !! I can never live accordingly, I have my dreams I wanna get into medicine but I know that if I ask to study abroad my family won't let me, they don't support my goals and my mom is very controlling and she never trusts me even though she advices other ppl to give their daughters freedom and trust but with me it's the opposite ,

Am so fed up and I can't go on anymore when I see my brothers living their lives and going here and there while me staying home most of the time or even when my mom plans for them to have better studies while me no because am a girl !! Am thinking about running away get into medicine and start going my own way

Btw my parents aren't bad they care too much about me and love me way too much but they wouldn't listen to me am so very sure and my soul is dead from that so would it be awful of me if I run away ?? But am really desperate and I wanna be independent.

No you're wrong !! They never listen am 100% sure they won't lsn and I can afford expenses of the 1st year then am thinking about finding a job and start working to cover the expenses , there is no class I need to take here it's with the total percentage of all classes I have to get 99.8% which is nearly impossible I looked for a university in Turkey and it suits me fine .. And with this society there is no such thing as compromise bcuz they believe a girl is nth but reputation and they're like " oh who knows what did she do abroad " etc and it never stops here so I can't live like that really my thoughts are 100% against theirs and no-one is supporting me

Honeypie agony auntHow would you afford the "escape" and then finding a place to live, pay for food and then all the tuition to fulfill your dreams?

Be realistic.

I would look into what you need to do in order to become the person you want to be. What kind of grades would you need to get into medicine, what classes and so forth.

Do you have a career counselor at your school?

I would make a REALISTIC plan for the future and then sit down with your parents. Maybe even find an adult you and your parents respect who can help you put your "case" forward.

I AM sorry that you live in a country where you have no personal freedom due to your gender alone, but running away won't change that. If you run away you will lose your family, won't you?

Find a way to REACH your dreams without breaking your parent's hearts. I would assume that ANY family would want their child to have ambitions and wishes for a better future. I can't see why they wouldn't want to support a daughter who wants to become a daughter. BUT I may be ignorant about the customs and culture in Egypt as I was raised in Northern Europe.

Listen, your parents love you find a way to "get what you want" without resorting to something you can never take back.
