I want to propose to her, Harry Potter style, but how?

Question - (8 July 2009) 11 Answers - (Newest, 10 July 2009)
A male United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

Hi! My girlfriend and I have been together for a while now (five years), since she was 19 and I was 21. And I just want to know of a nice, decent place I can propose to her at.

We're both Americans still living in America with the common goal of moving to England once she finished her Master's degree. We're both pretty obsessed with the Harry Potter series and being that her favorite book is the Half-Blood Prince, I figured I would propose to her on opening night of the movie. Which is 14 July 2009 at midnight. But I really don't want to propose to her at the cinema.

I would just like a few opinions as to where I could take her before the movie. She has work that day and clocks out at 9:00PM CST, so we wouldn't even have time for dinner...

Thanks to anyone who can help!

you and some friends should dress up as Harry potter ppl. then instead of a box, put the ring in the snitch and propose. as for where...idk.

I appreciate all the advices! They are all really good ideas! But I think I am going to go with an Expo thing in Chicago and get tickets for the Omnimax showing and propose to her there. Thanks again!

Kalyov agony auntAww this is soo cute! Im pretty much obsessed with HP too..

Remember how Dumbledore kept the ring in the Snitch? In Deathly Hallows?

Make a Snitch and put the ring inside! :D

Maybe get some friends together and play some ground Quidditch and have her be the Seeker. ;)

pinkgoblin15 agony auntYou could always cut a hole in the Half-Blood Prince book and put the ring inside of it. Or you could buy a wizard hat like the sorting hat and put a replica of the gryfindor sword in there along with the ring in a ring box thing and give it to her. Imagine her pulling the sword out and like huh? lol Then she pulls out the box lol. It would be funny.. I can't think of a good moment though : / Do it before you guys arrive at the cinema? So that way it makes the movie even better for her? Btw if you are located in Chicago Illinois you could always take her to the *Harry Potter: The Exhibition* thingy they have there and do it there.. It cost money to buy tickets tho : / Its a museum they just made it has all the stuff from the movie Good Luck to ya :)

It is true that we still live in the US and I do appreciate everyone's advice givings here! We live just outside of Chicago, so anywhere in the city would be great! I'm just totally brain-fuzzed when it comes to this. I know exactly what I want to say to her, but I don't any plans otherwise. Thanks again!

Tisha-1 agony auntGuys, they live in the US, not the UK (yet)! So where do you live? Can you give us some help here? You have less than 3 hours to set the stage. Maybe that's an idea? Get some theatrical friends to help you by enacting a scene from the book.

Or get the people in line involved by handing out signs that spell out letter by letter W I L L Y O U M A R R Y M E ? Though it isn't exactly the most romantic place, that might work if she enjoys quirky things.

AuntyEm agony auntWhat about on the millenium bridge. I do believe it's featured in the movie. It's also next to the Tate Modern which has a giant spider sculpture outside, much like the spider in the earlier HP movies. You could then get the tube to see the theatre.

I think it's very romantic and I hope she says YES!!!

First off I'd like to say thank you for knowing asking someone to marry you in a cinema is not the most romantic place.

I wonder if maybe you had thought of the first place you went out on a date together, or any place that has placed some important part in your relationship.

I hope this helps a little and I wish you the best of luck :)
