 Here's what I say go up to him and straight up say "hey what's up? You ok? Why are you avoiding me?" and don't take any "I'm not avoiding you" crap. This will show you got nerve and are not to be played with.

 He either fancies you, and is too shy about it so he'd rather not have to face you. He'd probably feel embarrassed and uneasy around you so would rather avoid you. OR he knows how you feel about him and feels uneasy about this. So he avoids you.
Try talking to him. Just casually ask him if there's anything wrong and hint that you feel he's been avoiding you recently. Don't push him though. Maybe it's just a phase.

Talk to him. You can't tell what's wrong, and neither can we. Guys can ignore girls sometimes, because they like them and dont know what to do. But the only way to find out is to talk to him. Ask him why he's suddenly so distant and tell him you're worried that you're drifting apart. Maybe he'll open up.
