A female reader, Country Woman United Kingdom +, writes (17 June 2006):

Country Woman agony auntYou don't say how old you are but yes having hair on your back and stomach etc is all signs of puberty so don't worry about that it is very normal.

If you are gaining weight without eating then there could be a number of things going on as your body is obviously changing right now.

You are still growing and so that could have something to do with it. How much weight gain are we talking about here?

Has your family noticed any dramatic changes in your body shape at all or commented on it. Are you getting comments from school friends etc?

If you have an up coming date then this person already accepts you for who you are and not the fact that you have gained some weight so stop panicking as you will be a nervous wreck before the date and that is not good at all as you need to be as relaxed as possible so that you give off a very good impression. It is you as a person that they are interested in and you have obviously made an impact already. Be yourself on the date as much as is possible, I know nerves play a huge part in all of this.

If the weight is really worrying you then you should talk to your mum or dad about it and see what they have to say and also possibly look into going to the doctors for a professional opinion as it could well be within the realms of normal weight gain for someone your age. If it is outside of this then you could have a thyroid issue or something and they can test you for these things with a simple blood test.

Don't go starving yourself though right now.

How much exercise do you do and how much healthy food do you eat i.e. fruit and veg?

Exercise and a healthy eating plan can give you huge bundles of energy.

If you have been exercising a lot lately you could also be building up muscle instead of fat and that weighs more when you look on the scales.

Are you weighing yourself a lot lately or are clothes feeling tight instead?

Do talk to your immediate family though as they are the ones closest to you and if they see that you are upset by all of this then moral support is essential.

I am only one of the Aunts/Uncles on this site and I think you will probably get a lot more feedback from the others but there are so many considerations as to why you have gained weight but the one thing I would say is don't get down about it right now.

Talk it through and check out all the possibilities but with your doctor and family.

I have done fast weight loss plans in the past and believe me you feel absolutely lousy and your skin can suffer as a consequence and also your energy levels can dip dramatically so be proactive instead and just enjoy your date. Be you as that is how you got the date in the first place eh!!

Best of luck and let me know how you get on eh!
