 Why not just enjoy getting to know him better? Being friends is a great place to start; you can learn about him and see if you two are really compatible without worrying too much about if he is 'the one' for you.
I know that you're about to leave school and you both will be facing new challenges in work or further schooling, so why not just make sure you have a solid place as friends so that you can be sure you'll keep in touch as you find out what's in store for you?
Have you two been out on a date? Maybe you could ask if he'd like to go out, have a special event like a concert or something like that planned and then you can just take it from there.
