Dear Cupid,

For the past year, or so, I have had small bumbs around my pubic area and base of my penis. I shave though, and I shave the base of my penis. I thought these were razor bumps, because of my shaving. However, some of them have been there for a long time, some many months. Also, they are seeming to spread, as in they seem to even come up as high as my belly button, though I do shave that high too. I am concerned that they could be some type of herpes? They are somwhat hard, do not have white tips, and only appear on the base of my penis, around the base of my penis, and a few (maybe three) below my abdomen. They do not hurt, they do not itch, and they do not leak or puss. They do not go away though. I have purchased some razor bump removal creams, but they dont seem to work well.

My gf went to the dr, and was recently tested for herpes and other std's, she came back clean. But does that clear me? Could I still have herpes? Does this sound like herpes? I have looked online at photos and stuff, but what I have does not look like herpes, or at least not the pictures I have seen of it. Does this sound like razor bumps? If so, how can I get rid of these things?

I don t beleive that its herpes. I know a few people who have had herpes and from what I hear, you would know if it was herpes. So it could just he very stubborn razor bumps. My boyfriend skin is really sensitive so he doesn t like to shave. If its not razor bumps, have you and your gf been experimenting with any new lubricant or have you changed the brand of your underwear or boxers. It could be an allergy you never knew you had. I think you should go to the doctors to be sure. If it turns out to be nothing big, use caster oil to dry it out. good luck!

This is verified as being by the original poster of the question

To the anon male that suggested they are skin tags: That is exactly what they look like, and from reading descriptions about them, I would 99% say thats what they are! I also have one under my armpit, that is rather large, which for the past couple of years have wondered what it was. I thought about removing it myself, but was always too scared (im not good at that suff), but now I know it is harmless, i will just clip it off when I get home.

Great, thanks for curing me ;)

Cheers

If you shave, it might be skin tags, which are from shaving close to the skin, i have had them and was worried also, get yourself checked out, if its skin tags, lay off on the shaving for a little while and they will go away.

Mister, get yourself to a doctor and quit the worried guessing game. Sounds to me like shaving is your cause, but I'm no doctor. If you cannot, for some reason, go to a doctor, try giving up the razor and check your results.

Tisha-1 agony auntThe best thing for you to do is to see your doctor for a diagnosis. It may be genital warts (one of many human papilloma viruses) or a benign skin condition. Either way, wouldn't you want to have the clean bill of health on the STDs like your girlfriend did? Seems only logical to reciprocate to me.

Here's a link to some rather graphic pictures of various skin conditions in the genital region. NOT SAFE FOR WORK!!!

Here's a useful website that may help you too. I've linked to the genital wart information page here.

Hope this helps and good luck!

Salad Fingers agony auntYou have to remember the skin on the penis is different to normal skin, its common for there to be bumps and things, look up 'sebaceous glands of hair follicles'

also whenever i shaved i came up in red bumps as you descrbed, sort of on my lower belly, and they went away after a week or two (i got them every time i shaved so stopped shaving)

From what you describe i seriously doubt they are herpes.
