I don't want to step in but I want to date her!

....i need a little help here... there is this girl i met a few months back through some close friends, and she has this boyfriend who is kinda a jerk to her, but she says that she is in love with him and not willing to leave him yet, however i hav developed feelings for this girl and i expressed them to her one night, the next day when i saw her was a little awkward but after that day she almost seemed like she felt the same way. the point of this story is id like to get with this girl on a date or something and i dont want to step on her boyfriend/exboyfriends toes because wen shes not with me and my friends shes with him... wat do i do?
