They often play sports shirtless, gym, after school, team sports, from just about the 1st day of spring to the first frost, wearing only their lose grey short shorts, like their friends. And they hang out -flopping in the wind, catching a ball. And thaty're not small. I have pointed this out to them, but they could care less. They're not at all shy about it, and don't even think about. It's kinda funny -- I wish that I was so care-free! So, I'd say going commando is fine, but you may be revealing more than you know, if you care.

 I guess that depends on what you wear. Under a kilt it's kinda a cliche..
I go "commando" most of the time, though NEVER while wearing loose shorts or a skirt/dress.
I have known lots of guys who never wear them.

I think that we all have our idiosyncrasies and if you meet someone who sees all your wonderful qualities, and that person clicks with you, that person can probably overlook the fact that you don't like to wear underwear. I think it looks unpolished and it would feel weird, but like I said, we all have out idiosyncrasies that other people might not understand. It doesn't mean you're sick or a bad person... and I don't think it's a big deal.
