A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

There is a girl who works in my local pub who I really like and cannot get her out of my head I have fancied her for ages but never had the nerve to say anything we have a mutual friend who knows the situation and has said if I ever want to talk she will listen but I don't like to as they have been friends for a lot longer. The girl who I like has this on off relationship with this bloke who from what I can gather plays mind games with her I saw her flirting with him the other day and it really tore me up inside I do not know whether to say anything to her or if I should write a letter or even send her flowers. I am scared as to what her reaction will be and if it will make me feel even worse. I am not very good at this sort of thing. I do not want to sound as though I am obsesssed with her I just really like her and hate to see people messed about. Can any one offer any advice on what to do.

A female reader, anonymous, writes (25 March 2007):

What your going through happends to everyone! The only way to get out of it is to really look at the situation, if you generally think you have a chance with this girl, than what are you waiting for. Ask if you can buy her a drink sometime, don't surprise her with 'i have liked you for adges' as that may scare her slightly. You never know she could be feeling the same for you. The only way to find out is to let her know you are interested. If she dosnt show the interest back, you can finally get on the road of forget and start looking else where. Dont waste your time on something that isnt garenteed.
