 Surely the most important thing in this is how YOU feel. If you want to date her then date her! If you friends can't deal with that then maybe it is time you started to look for some new friends.
Real friends will always treat you gf well and kindly even if they didn't really like her - they would do that because they like you.
Go ahead and date her and don't worry about your friends they are most likely jelous!

On an aside, your friends aren't very good friends if they make jokes about you and aren't very good people if they make jokes about others. Maybe you should work on getting new friends?
