reader, anonymous, writes (30 December 2008): You shouldn't date her because it's unfair to HER. If you are too immature to be in a loving and caring relationship - and you are if you worry about what your friends think - then leave her be.
On an aside, your friends aren't very good friends if they make jokes about you and aren't very good people if they make jokes about others. Maybe you should work on getting new friends?
