reader, anonymous, writes (1 March 2009): You can't just date someone you don't know. You need to get to know her on a friendly basis first. Basically that involves making friends with her the same as you did with the rest of your mates. Just introduce yourself, ask about her, get her msn etc, then when you feel you know her better, take it from there.

 You really have to build up some courage here, walk up to her confidently, say "hello I'm ...... I've seen you around and I think you are really, pretty, hot, gorgeous (insert your own compliment here), I'd really like to take you out some time?"
It will take some confidence, but once you have done it, you'll be able to do it again and again. What's the worst she can say?
Just remember girls are as shy and self conscious as you are, she'll see you as a confident guy who finds her attractive, and that's half the battle won.
