 The vast majority surely do. But, not having access to an accurate and honest survey of every married man on the planet, I can't answer your questions regarding frequency and whether their wives know about it or not.Clearly this is a question that has no tangible answer (how long was that piece of string again?) Even taking the case of one individual man, the repsonses would vary enormously over his lifetime depending on considerations such as how long he'd been married, the overall health and state of the relationship, and how alluring (or otherwise) he found his wife. Also, factors such as the woman's interest - or lack of - in sex would clearly have a huge influence on a guy's 'habits'.I think most women don't mind too much, as long as it's a case of "as well as" not "instead of" having sex with her.

I'd say... everyone who masturbates keeps it private? The amount a person masturbates depends on the person. I definitely never "alerted" any of my boyfriends for when I went to business, except if I wanted them to join in.

reader, anonymous, writes (29 July 2012): Every guy is different OP. I rarely need to masturbate lately because we're going through a highly sexual phase after a brief respite. I don't understand the "without the wife knowing" part I fail to see how that is relevant. I don't care if my girlfriend knows I have or whether she has, we've both walked in on each other loads of times.
In general though it's too hard for anyone to say as it varies so much from guy to guy and it varies at times too. I may do it once or twice a day without my girlfriend knowing, not because I'm hiding it from her but it's the same as taking a dump, I don't exactly have to tell her every time I do that either.
Why does it matter?

 I'm not a married guy, but I'm a married woman. As long as I get to have sex regularly with my husband, I don't care if he takes care of himself, and I don't want to know, as long as it doesn't involve cheating with real-life women or virtual cybersex with the aforementioned real-life women.
