Hey Aunts!

I was just wondering how much weddings cost these days, the whole church, reception, flowers, dress etcetc. On average?

I'm from England so preferably '£' please, but I'll figure it out in dollars or other :P

Thank you!!

Hiya,

Just thought I'd give my two cents since I got married less than 3 weeks ago :D

It's expensive, damn expensive if you want all the trimmings. I got married at a castle (exclusive use for the whole weekend), it had 30 bedrooms so most of our guests could stay at the castle. Including flowers, clothes, dinner, breakfast, magician, drinks, canapes, music and photography we ended up spending about £35,000 and the honeymoon was an additional £12,000. Not cheap but it was a magical day and everyone loved it.

In the end it will depend on your budget. I know loads of people that got married for significantly less/more. Pick a budget and stick to it is my suggestion, it's very easy to get carried away. The last thing you want to do is spend the rest of the decade paying for one days worth of excess.

It really depends on the "extras." You can save money by utilizing relatives who are talented. For example, if you have a relative that is a really good photographer you could hire them instead of a professional. This can be done with everything from the food to the music. Just discuss it with relatives who have talents and see how much they would want to be paid. Sometimes if you are really lucky they even do it for free or in exchange for things like free babysitting. :)

If you purchase silk flowers from the craft store you can make your own boquets which are much cheaper than a florist. Also you can come up with creative and inexpensive ideas for things like center pieces. Plus they keep forever. There are a lot of very realistic fake flowers now, too.

But if you want to go with everything traditional and purchased, be prepared to have a big bill. Many friends of mine have forgone the big wedding and used that money instead for downpayments on homes. And I would say for a "traditional all perks included wedding" you're looking at around at least 10,000 minimum.

angelDlite agony auntthere is no average wedding. mine cost £20 for a gold ring, £78 for the licence, food in a pub afterwards, no new clothes, no special car, no honeymoon. very basic, but still a wedding! then you get the other end of the scale - gypsy weddings which are mega bucks with all the trimmings. in between these extremes there is every other price, depends what the couple (or their families want)

fi_the_tree agony auntit depends on what sort of things you want...

Big church, small church, local pub function room or stately home for reception, colour and size of flowers, dress and accessories.

If you really want to know, do some research on it, find ranges on each separate thing, then you can play around with budgeting and get a better idea.

Generally, if you're looking for a big fairytale wedding, you're looking at say £20,000 and up!!! I'm no expert by all means, but they aren't cheap!!
