How do I tell my boyfriend I just want to be friends...?

A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Basically i was with a guy for 2 and a half years up till the beginning of april, he then broke it off with me on the terms that he didnt love me anymore because i had changed and not told my parents we were engaged.

i decided to get talking to the guy i cheated on him with when i was on holiday last year, we went from strength to strength and ended up going out with each other for almost a month, but on 25/5/10 i met with my ex after getting back on talking terms and being friendly and he just won the way back to my heart, so i emailed my bf and told him it was over in the kindest way possible, he was ok with it and we are still friends, but now i have decided that i really dont want to be with my ex anymore and i would rather be single, but i had also bought travel tickets to go and see the guy i was with for a month and i know my boyfriend would not allow it because of course the guy i was with for a month i cheated on my current bf with.

So basically i want to be single for now but i think i like the guy i was with for a month and wouldnt mind getting back with him while i am away seeing him next month. so what do i tell my current bf in the nicest way? i still want to be friends, but not a relationship anymore.
