How do I handle swimming, without tampons or pads? How does that work?

A female United Kingdom age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I am going on holiday in 2weeks and my period is due for the last 5 days of my holiday, and I don't really have a problem with that, but I don't use tampons so I wont be able to swim. Some people have said to me they still go swimming on their period even without tampons, but I am worried as even if I don't get my period while in the water, won't I still get it on the poolside? and since I wont be able to wear pads if I swim, how would that work?

Any help is very much appreciated.

Tisha-1 agony auntWhen I started using tampons, I couldn't use the ones with the applicators, I just couldn't figure it out. I used those OB ones, they were easy to learn and felt smaller than the ones with the applicators.

I wouldn't recommend going without tampons in the water either. The problem with the pads is that they will absorb the water and I'm not sure that's a good idea, hygenically speaking....

You should PM Emivia and get the skinny on tampons. I really wouldn't risk if I were you.. or anyone. Tampons are awesome once you get the hang of them. They don't hurt at all and relieve you of those diapers in your underwear!

I've never heard of anyone doing that before... And I really wouldn't want to risk that myself.

I really can't imaging it working.

If you really want to go swimming whilst on your period, then I suggest either trying out tampons, (if you're worried about them maybe you could ask someone close to explain them to you, or you can mail me and I'll talk to you about them.)

Or if you really don't want to wear a tampon then my advise would be not to go swimming whilst you've got your period.

Hope this helped.
