 The simplest way really is to go up to him and say 'hi'!
Since you're both on the same team just ask him how he likes the team, or your coach, or something else about the team. That should give plenty for you two to talk about.
If that's too embarassing you could try becoming friendly with one or a few of his friends. Then you're bound to end up getting to talk to him at some point soon.
I recommend taking a bit of time to get to know him before you decide whether you want to get into a relationship with him. Although you probably feel like you know him quite well, you really don't until you've spent a lot of time talking and getting to know each other. Also, if you take your time then if something does happen then he'll be more likely to think of you as a friend as well as a girl, meaning you have a better chance of becoming his girlfriend. It's just one of those things with guys, but if you have sex with them as fast as you can then they often feel like they can't become your boyfriend.
