eyeswideopen agony auntOne of the students I worked with got her tongue pierced and chipped two teeth with it and had to get caps. Until you get your own dental insurance, I'm with mom on this one.

Yeap, it's TRASHY... unless you live in a trailer park, then maybe not, but since most of the women who get them appear to be stripers, who knows.

Your not going to change your mothers mind because she's right, which you'll know in around 18 years when your kids is asking for the same thing.

tux agony auntPersonally, I would say you are better off without the tongue peircing.. I really see no use, cosmetically or physically. Now, the question is do you want it because you really want it or do you want it to follow a trend? If you want it to follow a trend, I will say stop and don't consider it.. If you want it for yourself, then wait the 2 years and then consider it again. But then again, I kind of do agree with your mom that it is a little trashy and it may turn off some decent guys and end up attracting the wrong type of guys towards you.

I don't think it's trashy. But I will say this, I've had mine since i was 25. I'm 38 now, and the dental problems that I have had from it make me regret I had it done. You might never convince your mom, because she doesn't understand why you want it. Worse case scenario, you wait 2 years and get it yourself. Best case; find out something she did, and remind her she was 16 once too. Good luck Lacey, and if you get it done, use only the acrylic balls, not the stainless.
