What is the problem? That you sent the computer for repair and got huge bill but the real problem of the virus infection was not fixed?

The easiest method is as previously stated. Get your cd backup of your OS and drivers, press the key that tells the notebook to boot off the disk and reinstall the laptop to factory fresh status. You will need to download all the updates though and that will take a while. Backup any files that are on your Document and Picture folders as well as the Desktop or Downloads and Mail that you may need. If you haven't done this before do a search to find out how.

I had a virus problem yesterday.I factory restored it.Easy, I restarted computer pressed f10 button while rebooting.Did factory restore in about fifteen minutes virus gone. computer just like new.

If you dropped it or did the orange juice spill then fess up. Agree to do everything you can to make it right.Parents love a responsible kid.

the best way to do this, is say, mom i goto confess something- i kinda messed up and didnt take care of my laptop like i should have... admit and accept your mistake- at least she'l know ur learning to be responsible. cos at the end of it, uv got to tell her somehow.

burningredphoen agony auntIf you had time to send for repairs without your mom knowing then you still have more time to get it fixed...sending it to the factory for repairs is a real pain....computers are really easy to fix...just have someone else take a look at it...usually the guys in school who contantly play computer games would know about it.

LilPixie agony auntYou didn't say what it was they did?? That would help a little.

We had ours sent off for repairs.. What did they do? they put a new hard drive in without telling us we would need a recovery disk to use the laptop, which cost us £30...

The first poster suggested using Spyware doctor... I don't know about anyone else, it hasn't been any good for my mum's laptop. Also, i would NEVER trust Norton internet security (if you have it where you live), thats how we caught that virus in the first place, and norton didn't pick up on it (it was a trojan).

Like one of the posters suggested, try using AVIRA, me and my sis and a few of her friends use it, none of us have ever had a problem with it.

You're going to have to tell your mum, and i don't think there's a way of telling her without her getting mad in some way.

Good luck

Hi. Just tell your mum what you said here, that you got a computer virus and sent the pc off to be fix but it has worked. And get some antivirus software! There are some very good free ones about, i use free ones called Avira and Malwarebytes. Im sure you mum wont be too cross.

burningredphoen agony auntBy the way if you don't believe me ill buy it off you and fix it and use it for myself...that's how sure I am that it is not broken.

I'm a computer prorammer and virus writer as well as a backend web programmer....your comp isn't broken....the factory bastard didn't wanna spend money and probably blamed you saying the damages aren't covered under the warranty fine print blah blah blah

burningredphoen agony auntWell as a computer programmer I know for a fact that no virus can destroy your computer physically...you can still use that computer. Just put a new os on it....find a nerd in school and use your charms...

Most likely the factory that you sent it back to got too greedy and didn't want to put a new os on it because it would cost them...by the way there is something called linux and its free...its called capitalism...they lied to you because they got contracts with microsoft and don't even wanna cause legal issues by saying you can fix it that way...if you have questions email me at [email blocked] I'd be happy to help.......I'm 99% sure your laptop can be fixed.

rcn agony auntI'd just tell her. A virus is so easy to get on a computer. Get a good virus protection program. I won't even log in on the internet without one. I've had many years of computer training, and I still need a program cause a virus tries to sneak in every once in a while.

Six_Floors_Left agony auntHonestly I think that she's going to be mad at you either way. But of course that would depend how much is going to have to come out of her pocket for the laptop. Just telling her the truth and that you didn't mean to do it is just about the best thing you can do. She might get mad but it's not like it's going to be the end of the world. Hope this helps any.

It is just a computer, a piece of property. Although she may be somewhat angry, I bet she will be happier that you are alright. Overall, a virus is relatively easy to fix. Do you know what kind of virus it is? Often times you can fix it with free programs, such as Spybot search and destroy and Ad-Aware. You may find it beneficial to invest in Spyware Doctor or some other anti-virus program, all of which will generally be very helpful in removing a virus. If you conduct independent research on this virus it is likely you could probably fix it on your own. Good luck.
