How could a friend reject me for this?

A female United States age , anonymous writes:

I have been friends with this guy for about 7 years. We met through work and became very good long distance friends. We have only been together in person about 10 times in those 7 years. We do however talk a lot on the phone or via email. I made a terrible mistake and called him during an intimate time with his wife. He has asked me not to contact him/call him anymore. How can a true friend just do that?

I don't believe his wife knew anything about our friendship. I don't even think she knows my name. I have never met her

To be this hurt seems you wanted more than to be his friend

A female reader, anonymous, writes (17 August 2011):

I'm afraid his wife is probably unhappy with your friendship and you calling during an intimate moment between then has probably forced his hand- its his wife or you.

I'm afraid his wife wins.
