Hi all, I do hope somebody can offer some advice on my situation as I'm feeling rather down.

I went on an expensive luxury holiday 6 months ago and had the ussual holidays blues after getting back as we all do.

I waited and waited for these to wear off but quite frankly they havnt. I keep smelling the air conditoning getting off the plane, feeling down everytime I see this place advertised on the tele. I keep calling for quotes even though I know I can't afford to go back there for atleast another 2 years. I'm just so unhappy. I don't want to move to this place as I would miss all my family here but I'm desperate to go back sooner. Does this all make me crazy?

I recently had a windfall of 2.5k and keep looking at ways that I can use this money to make more money quickly but how can I do this? Any ideas considered please.

ways to make money quickly:

1. gamble (there's the risk you may lose it all, but I have a friend who's a very good poker player and she has made a lot of money that way. in fact when she got laid off she got by making money from playing poker until she found a new job.)

2. put it in the stock market (which is like gambling unless you take a really long term view)

3. marry a rich guy (serious, I have friends who did this)

4. sell off all your possessions on ebay. that's what I'm doing now as I recently lost my job and I need to pay bills.

5. take on an informal extra job like babysitting, dog-walking, housecleaning, tutoring. I say "informal" so you can be paid cash and don't have to pay income taxes. but then there's issues of liability (which is why there are professional babysitters and dog-walkers and so on) so you have to hope nothing goes wrong on your watch.

6. If you're a professional, you can moonlight or maybe do some consulting on the side.

Actually I would suggest trying to get a part time job in your dream destination. or, if you are a student, do an exchange program there.

They also have "volunteer vacations" where you go abroad to do volunteer work in another country, usually back breaking manual labor type volunteer work, but you still do get days off to do sight seeing. Yes you have to pay your way there. But I'm thinking that if you are going to be doing volunteer work and can show you're with a legitimate organization, you can ask people to sponsor you since it's for a good cause and you will be doing back breaking volunteer labor once there.

fi_the_tree agony auntGet yourself to the nearest bookies!!! Be warned though, you could lose it all. I watched a guy lose £6,000 on 3 horses!!!!

Listen to what others have put about your quality of life in all seriousness. They make alot of sense... Good luck

You can open a trading account at an online brokerage where you do the trading and buy stock such as Apple which is rising a lot now- it is expected to go to 550 or so and who knows it may go even higher. that is one way to make money quickly but you will have to pay taxes on it of cours if the money is in regular account.

I don't think it makes you crazy, but obviously since you don't want to move you need to do things to feel happier where you are, or build a life style which will allow you to travel more frequently.

If you find a get rich quick scheme let me know! I would bank it in a high interest account and maybe think of getting a 2nd job to save quicker.

Is there not a way you can go there on the cheap, Hostels are basic but cost alot less, www.hostels.com and you can go on sites like skyscanner.net for cheap flights - might get you back there faster

celtic_tiger agony auntOP, I think the main issue you need to address here, is not how to get rich quick (impossible) but why you are so unhappy with your life.

Most people cannot afford to go on holiday as much as they would like. We have to save up and holidays are a total luxury. I myself had not had a proper holiday since 2008. I just cant afford it. Yes I feel depressed, yes I feel miserable, and yes I feel hard done by. But you just have to get on with it. Life carries on.

I think you need to work out why you are so dissatisfied with your life now. What can you change to make it happier?

Unfortunately the way the economy is there is pretty much no way to make money quickly. If there was we'd all be using our savings to get rich.

Even in a good economy you'd have to wait a while for a good return on an investment and 2.5k is not much money at all and wouldn't return much anyway.

Get rich quick ideas would include shrewd investment and a lot of it, you'd have to learn to play the market, it would take a long time and it's a gamble that may not pay off at all.

The best bet for you would be to use that money to better your quality of life. If you want to be able to afford expensive holidays then you should build a career in a high paying job.

The best advice I can give you though OP would be to use your money to pay for a TEFL course. Save up a bit more and move to Dubai or Vietnam and teach English. The money you'd earn doing that against the cost of living in those countries would give you an exceptionally high standard of living. In Vietnam you can earn the same amount of money as Vietnamese doctors do for only 3 days work. China, Indonesia, even Eastern Europe you can live like a queen on very little money and you'd be earning loads.

Again OP, if it was that easy to make a hell of a lot of money really quickly then we'd all be doing it.
