How can I be a better person overall?

Question - (28 January 2010) 1 Answers - (Newest, 28 January 2010)
A female United States age 26-29, anonymous writes:

I'm in love with my best friend, but I feel that he doesn't see me anymore but only sees my other friend. I have to admit, this other friend is really nice, intelligent, extremely beautiful, and I am pretty intelligent too, but my personality is not as sweet, and I'm really competitive at school. I feel like my personality is more on the rough side, and I really really want to change myself for the sake of my best friend, but it's extremely hard. I'm still just being myself, but I do want to be a better person for the good of my best friend. So I've been trying to be nice to others, but I don't know what else to do. Please don't say that I shouldn't try to be like someone else, because I'm not; I just want to be a better person overall. Help? What else should I do to take the extra step and make him like me?

A male reader, CaringGuy United Kingdom +, writes (28 January 2010):

Why don't you just ask to speak to him and then tell him you feel like you're drifting away? See what he says. He might not be aware that you feel this way, so before trying to change, just talk to him.
