How can I ask how he feels about me without putting him on the spot?

Question - (29 April 2008) 1 Answers - (Newest, 29 April 2008)
A female United States age 36-40, anonymous writes:

I've been seeing my boyfriend for a little over a year now, but we just adopted the title of boyfriend and girlfriend 6 months ago.

It's kind of a long distance thing because he's in NY and I'm in NJ, but I am so totally in love with this man.

The problem is, I don't know how he feels about me, so I'm terrified to let him know that I love him.

How can I ask how he feels without putting him on the spot?

A male reader, Collaroy Australia +, writes (29 April 2008):

Collaroy agony auntHi ,

this type of post really demonstrates how different men and women are to me.

I can only imagine what his response will be, but be prepared for him to start running for the hills. Guys just don't like being put on the spot like this, you have only been going out for 6 months and things seem to be going well, so why do you feel the need for him to say these things? Sure he may drop down on his knees and pledge himself to the love of his life for ever, but equally he may wince become uncommuincative and your phone will stop ringing at night.

I don't know you boyfriend, he may be a big softy who is looking for his chance to pledge his undying love, then again he might not be. I cant see what you have to gain by this.

good luck anyway.
