He isn't physically affectionate, does he not like me or is he shy?

Alright here's the thing, I have a boyfriend, his name is Alphonsus, he's real sweet funny and weird, we've been dating for about a month now and you'd think 'awwwww y'all are holding hands and hugging all day', but no...he's shy, or he doesn't like me. But he's told me he really likes me and he knows I really like him so I sit and ponder 'if he likes me so much then why doesn't he show it?'. Such as today, I skipped my fifth hour class to go eat lunch with him and his best friend and his friends girl friend who happens to be my best friend, so we're all sitting laughing at something, then out of nowhere Concepta (my best friend) goes 'why don't you two hold hands?!' I shrug and said I don't know, Alphonsus just kinda looks around for a second and says 'I have sweaty hands'
