A female United Kingdom age 30-35, anonymous writes:

My boyfriend can only ejaculate once in a day, or so. Last weekend we had sex on the friday at about 5.00. I stayed the night and we had sex again in the morning at about 11. The thing is he couldn't come. We had sex for about 40 minutes, then he gave up and pulled out. I didn't know at the time but he told me afterwards and he was really embarassed about it, and says it's happened before. I don't know what to think or do. Is this normal?

We're both 17 and have been together for over a year. (We're both legal in our country, if you're wondering)

Hey. I had the same problem initially. When I started having my sex faster the problem disappeared. Now I can cum far more frequently. Just be faster with your sex and report back whether it works. In your case, you just need to encourage him to go faster

A female reader, lucy567 United Kingdom +, writes (4 June 2012):

my boyfriend was 20 when we first slept together and we have been together 2 years. My boyfriend has always only been able to come once in about 24 hours. I used to worry whether it was me, but now i know its just the way it is and its fine. At the end of the day i know he would never cheat on me in a million years and we are very happy so its not a problem. I am happy with the way it is and think that if we were to have sex so many times in one night it wouldnt be as passionate and personal. And any way, i have never had friction burns like alot of my friends by having from too much sex

A female reader, sammyo United States +, writes (11 May 2010):

He must have been tired. My bf has told me that he doesn't like ejaculating unless it's been a day or two in between. He says it feels better when there's more to expel. Also, I've tried having him ejaculate multiple times and he takes a lot longer after the first time. Now, I'm a girl who loves her guy's parts and can't keep her hands off 'em. Once he actually peed a tiny bit of blood because I jacked him off 6 times within 3 hours. (Dr. said it was no big deal, just that I was too rough/needed to leave him alone. How sad I was to hear that news!)

So I've come to the conclusion that penises are like reusable batteries and need time to recharge before you stick them back into something.

Therefore, I think he's just fine. Unless both of our boyfriends are abnormal....

A male reader, dirtball United States +, writes (6 May 2010):

dirtball agony auntI'd say nothing is broken since he can get it up. He probably expends all his ejaculate in the first round leaving nothing left for later. While I've never personally had this problem, having multiple orgasms in the same day (3 or more) can actually become painful.

One thing that is I've read about is some advice given to couples trying to conceive. Regular sexual activity (at least once a day) will, over time, help the body generate more semen thereby helping a couple conceive.

Maybe the best thing you could do is have sex every 24 hours, then it may happen for him in less time. Consider it training. ;)

CindyCares agony aunt For the anonymous reader who asks me if I can back up my claim- Sure. Go check any medical encyclopedia .

Does it mean that a young male can ejaculate 100 times a day ? Of course not.

The capacity of the testicles to produce sperm within a set period of time is not infinite or unlimited. With repeated ejaculations relatively close in time you'd emit

less and less sperm, until you have dry orgams. In fact, most probably you would stop way before that ,because also the psychologycal and physical need for sexual release is not infinite or unlimited.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (6 May 2010):

it is perfectly normal. if he could erect but could not come, it was all fine.

cumming again is too hard in 24 hours. medically it takes around 72 hours to replenish the fluid that gets discharged.

A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (6 May 2010):

CindyCares agony aunt I see what you mean, Fatherly Advice. Point taken, but not totally shared. What the President refers to is called "situational anorgasmia " - and,at 17 , most every "situation " will work. Both according medical research - and according to this old fox here :) that has visited a few hen-houses , and heard about many others. No

young rooster that I've known or heard of so far would have much trouble in singing cock-a-doodle-doo again after 18 hours.

I agree that it does not need to be necessarily pathological,or worrisome. It may have to do with performance anxiety, or sexual inexperience. So in this sense it is "normal ". But statistically normal, I am afraid not.

C. Grant agony auntI think for 17 that it's unusual. I had a really great weekend at 18 where we went 12 times in about as many hours. Don't know if that's normal either, but the once in 24 thing sounds more like middle age than teenage.

A male reader, Fatherly Advice United States + , writes (6 May 2010):

Fatherly Advice agony auntCindy,

I guess I'm some sort of wimp, I've never revived in 15 minutes in my life. And 24 hours at 45 is pretty rare now. Of course getting an opportunity twice in 24 hours is rare as well. Perhaps if I had had an opportunity every 15 minutes When I was 17 . . . . . best not to think of that.

But to reevaluate the situation 5 pm on Friday to 11 am on Saturday should not be a problem at 17. He did achieve a satisfactory erection. At 17 you get an erection at every stiff wind. He was unable to ejaculate.

Now there is an old urban legend about an American president. I think it was Eisenhower. The story goes that the president and first lady were visiting an egg ranch. The first lady noticed that there was only one rooster to 100 hens. She asked the rancher if that one rooster serviced all of those hens each day. He replied that that indeed he did. She asked the rancher to point that out to the President. The President asked him if the rooster ever serviced the same hen twice in a day, to which the rancher answered that no only once per hen. The president then asked the rancher to inform the First Lady of that part of the equation.

As I said there is more that one factor involved. Nuff said?

A reader, anonymous, writes (6 May 2010):

CindyCares do you have any references to back up that claim? It's just that i agree with the male opinions below, that say that it is relatively normal. I certainly can't believe that it is normal for every healthy 18 yr old guy to be able to ejaculate every 15 minutes. That's almost 100 times in 1 day.

A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (6 May 2010):

CindyCares agony aunt Sorry,Fatherly Advice, but I have to disagree with you. The refractory time of the average healthy 18 male is about 15 MINUTES. 24 hours is average for a 70 years old male.

Of course occasionaly there may be glitches. Maybe the boy had smoked too much weed, or was catching a cold, or had big worries on his mind,or whatever . But he said that this had happened again to him previously, and no, normally it does not take hours to a 17 years old male to get a second erection. So if it happens again, he should go talk to his doctor.

A male reader, Fatherly Advice United States + , writes (6 May 2010):

Fatherly Advice agony auntThe short answer is yes that's normal. You women should have pity on us poor men who have more desire and less ability.

In some instances a man can have more ejaculations in a day. Youth is a very helpful factor, but it is not the only factor. 24 hours is a good refractory period. As we get older that period can get longer. You should be happy that he was able to maintain an erection long enough to satisfy you.

This is yet another situation where pornography and erotic literature have led us astray. To borrow a saying, "While many men will brag about their six shooter, most don't measure up to a two barrel Derringer." I'm sure the talent would be appreciated, but we just aren't built that way.
