A female reader, skye United Kingdom +, writes (26 July 2007):

skye agony auntSounds like you could be developing a crush on this man. As you say, he is a lot older than you, so I doubt he is flirting. He probably likes you though, as his cousins friend.

Crushes at you age can be very enjoyable; and believe me he wont be your only one. They are a way for you to pick and choose what you want from your relationships when you get older. You obviously see somethings in this man that attracts you to him and that is what you want from your future boyfriends. Good for you! This is a safe way for you to learn not to settle for anything less in your future. That has got to be a positive thing.

In the mean time, just enjoy what you like about your friends cousin because it is normal, and keep looking out for things you admire in others too. That way you wont get upset or hurt. Just enjoy being the age you are right now and allow boyfriends to wait until you know exactly what you want.

Good luck,

Skye
