Has anyone ever had success getting over depression? Has anyone ever been really depressed in their early 20's and then gotten over it later on in their life without the use of drugs or therapy? Do things get better later on in your 20s? Do things get better in life in your 30s, 40s, etc.? Does life ever become better on its own by living normally or is it 100% down to the individual to make it better?

this question is like you read my mind! im also in college and hate it muchly!

ive never ever spoke about it but my family got really concered when my attendance at college.. really over a boy along with other problems that gradually equaled to depression. i dont know if this will help but i looked at this theory, just check it out it kinda made sense to me.

((Abraham Maslow theory of motivation)) its based on motivation, but i saw it as what makes people happy. and if you can see whats making you depressed you might be able to push through without any help.. thats what i did. i dont know why but it took this to make me realisee.

hope this helps you! x

ashlydance33 agony auntIf your depression isn't that bad then try to ride it out until the end of college. But life is life and it doesn't always go as planned. But being depressed is nothing to be ashamed of. Many people suffer from it. I wouldn't be surprised if a good percentage of your peers are depressed. But if you feel like you're suffocating and can't go on then please seek help.

There is never an age where life becomes easier. You may be stressed now from college, five years down the road it may be from a mortgage, then your marriage, then your children and finally retirement. Stress is unavoidable but it's how you manage it that can make you feel better about yourself. Learning how to successfully manage and cope with stress is basically a therapists job.

But again, if you feel like your depression is situational and will get better once you're done with college then I guess my advice would be to find a healthy outlet for stress.

Oh, well I don't really want to see a therapist or tell anyone I know. I was just wondering how much life changes once you finish college and whether it can get better.

ashlydance33 agony auntI've dealt with depression for years myself. There is a possibility of overcoming it on your own depending on the kind of depression. There's situational depression and then chronic, as far as I know.

If you don't like the idea of taking drugs, that's your choice but I strongly suggest seeking help from a counselor. They are a great source. It's nothing to be ashamed of. It doesn't mean there is anything seriously wrong with you, it means you care enough about your mental and emotional well being to seek help. It's important to keep in mind that you are not alone in this and that it can be overcome.

I have been seeing a therapist for two years now and I have had exceptional improvement. The road to recovery is different for everyone, but it can be done. I know this first hand. I wish you the very best of luck! =]
