A female age 30-35, anonymous writes:

hi i have a big problem!

im friends wiv this boy (not close friends) but talk sometimes. and i found out he fancies me and i told his mate i think i fancy him a bit too. cos i thought i did. anyway, we arranged to meet up just to get to know eachother i thought but we met up and he for some reason thinks that we are g/f and b/f now. i know this just from a few comments he was making. just cos i asked him if he wanted to meet up.

now i dont really wanna go out wiv him. i dont know why. i just dont fancy him! i really wish i did cos he actually treated me like a princess when we met up lol! he paid for my food, always giving me compliments and stuff! and now i feel terrible cos he really really likes me!

i told his mate how i felt cos he is a good friend of mine and he said he would tell the boy i fancied that we are not b/f and g/f cos i just wanna get to know him more. or should i do it instead of his mate?

i feel so bad! i dont wanna lead him on and he is so kind to me. i feel really guilty that he paid for my lunch as well and now im gonna say i dont wanna go out wiv him anymore. o that sounds so bad! i feel really guilty and upset about it all!

what shall i do?

A male reader, Bourne +, writes (19 December 2006):

Bourne agony auntYou have to be honest with your heart. If you don't feel anything for him, then you can't make yourself like him.

Sit down with him and tell him what you just told us. Make sure you tell him that you really appreciate his kindness but you just don't have the chemistry between you two.

If you feel like you can be friends with him, then tell him that you still want to be friends but that YOU DO NOT WANT TO DATE HIM. He needs to be told that in a very straight-forward way. (but be nice about it).
