A female reader, CindyCares Italy +, writes (21 May 2010):

CindyCares agony aunt Your age :) All teenagers get the blues. Some are better at hiding it,or compensate their insecurities by acting very social or very flirty, but all in all, dont' believe that your age should be all careefree fun and games, it's instead a transition period full of challenges and obstacles. You are not the only one to feel what you feel, even if it seems so now.

What can you do to feel better ? Learn to let the real you emerge. What are your hobbies, passions, interests, curiosities ? what do you admire, what do you dream about ?

Get to know yourself- get to make friends with yourself fisrt.

Of course there is the problem of shyness in trying new things - but you HAVe to try new things... You can start stretching your comfort zone a bit. Gradually. Like, of course you would not take part in a teenage beauty contest- but you can always get a totally new haircut and make up.

You can't go chat up perfect strangers ( which be very unwise anyway ! ) but make a point to give a friendly smile to all the people you meet, you practice self confidence and maybe some cute guy will smile you back.

You would not sing in front of an audience- but maybe you can sing in a choir , or in a music class...

Etc.etc

These are totally random examples and I have no idea if they could apply to you, but I think you got what I mean- you 'll have to find your own tools to self esteem. Be creative, and have fun !
