He is shy in fornt of me. We met at church. Ive liked him since the first time I saw him, that was 2 years ago. The first time we talked a lot but since than it was sort of awkward. My family says that he likes me. But what do you think, about him being shy around me?

 It's quite possible that he doesn't know how to approach you. You said he hasn't had a gf in five years? Why don't you make the first move and find out for sure if he likes you? I know that is easier said than done, but you can ask him to dinner and a movie as friends to start out.
When guys are shy around women it does usually mean they like them. But the only way to know for sure is to ask him out and get to know him better.
