Diet and exercise. So far I have lost 70 pounds. I still need to lose another 50 but I am happy with my accomplishment. I thought of things the same way you are. All or none. Now I am happy with what I have lost and realize its not a race because I am still better off then I was 10 months ago. I am not sure how much you have to lose but you will feel more confident in yourself even 10 pounds slimmer. The combination of weight loss and confidence will make you more attractive to your husband. Good luck. Not to advertise any particular weight loss program but weight watchers is what I have been using. Some fail and some succeed. It would be a good program just to retrain you in the basics of what you need to do. You should concentrate on creating new habits for a better lifestyle. I doubt you really need the advice of diet and exercise...thats just a given. Good Luck and congrats of 25 years!

A male reader, anonymous, writes (4 December 2009):

reduce your food intake and exercise and get yourself one of those step on balances to measure your weight several times a day because once you observe reduction in your weight it will give you a great encouragement to continoue the diet and exercise and also remember that your weight will not go down before several days of dieting but once it does it will continoue as long as you diet and exercise.

MsFrankie agony auntGo to Spin classes at your local gym - try to do them every day if you can and the weight will be absolutely falling off you in no time. Combine this with body combat classes (so much fun - completely addictive) and you're onto a winner.

A female reader, Miamine United Kingdom +, writes (4 December 2009):

Miamine agony auntsearch the internet and try to find a blog with someone who wants too loose weight too. Take pictures of yourself at the start, and take pictures of yourself every month. Grill and use the oven, rather than fry. Drink lots of water to fill you up and use lots of fruit and vegetables and they have low calories. Dummp the car, and walk more, take up dancing, swimming or just work harder when your doing housework, and do it the old fashioned way. Put away the hoover, use the broom. Do stomach excerises when your doing the dishes. Get excersise video's and do a 30 minute session once a day.. Make healthy and fitness your new life, try to think about your body and how your using it to give you the most calorie lost. If your with a partner, have more sex, and make it more adventurous. Start a diary or an internet weekly blog, recording your successes and failute, and people will join you, support you and give you support and suggestions. Start a big household project weekly. Painting the house, cleaning out cupboards, cleaning the cobwebs, all this is natrual, living a healthy life and it dosen't feel like dieting. Schedule some things to do with your partner of family, and make them all active. Rowing a boat, line dancing, mountain walking, simming, anything that's active and fun, it will make you stronger as a family and bring you laughs and fun. Cut down on sugar drinks, replace them with water. Reduce the sugar in your tea and coffe, a little bit at a time. Replace cakes with fruit, and eat pepers, nuts and with tomatoes instead of savory fat foods. Say no to the take away, so no to macdonalds and anything fried. Do more barbeques, and use fish and veg. Five portions of fruit and veg a day, grill rather than fry, 20mins activity a day, lots of water, and remember 2lb's weight a week is normal. More if yout bigger, but it will eventually stagnate at 2lbs, and that's when you must not give up.. Dieting is stupid, living a healthy life in all way's is the way to drop weight and keep off weight for life.

Offer to do some voluntary work, I'm sure someone needs a free cleaner, gardener or someone to paint, it's cheaper than the gymn, and it helps your community. Walk as much as you can, soon you'll find it quicker and easier to walk than load up the car, or wait for a bus or car.. Don't make things hard, little changes that you can live with, every single positive thing you do towards a healthy life will be helping you to get the body, and the lifestyle you want.. Congratulations, I'm expecting you to be sucessfull, it takes 3 months to start a new habit, and 320 days before it becomes your life and the only thing you want to do.

A female reader, Tisha-1 United States +, writes (4 December 2009):

Tisha-1 agony auntFirst, see your doctor and tell him or her what you would like to do. They can give you some good tips, and can tell you if you are healthy enough for exercise.

Second, start walking. Everywhere. Buy one of those inexpensive pedometers and start tracking your steps. 10,000 a day is the goal.

Do fat burning exercise, interval training (google it), cardio-type stuff that gets your heart rate up and your muscles moving.

To tone, I really recommend going to the gym and doing work with weights. I'd recommend meeting with a personal trainer and get a good plan for you, then you can do it on your own. Working with weights is the way to get some good muscle tone and nice definition in your arms and legs. You're not trying to life 250 lbs, you're doing moderate weight work with sets of repetitions.

Eat fewer calories than you burn. Start calorie counting, or Weight Watchers, or some type of program that keeps track of that. You can start out by cutting out red meat, going for lean proteins, eliminate processed foods and sodas entirely from your diet, no simple carbohydrates, no sugar. I'd recommend meeting with a nutritionist for one session to get a personalized plan for yourself. I personally liked trying the South Beach diet but have made my own food choices based on my own needs and calorie expenditures.

Take up yoga or be sure to do stretching to keep yourself flexible and there's a big bonus in the toning there too, as well as keeping your mind and body working together. There are inexpensive DVDs for yoga beginners that I think would be a good idea for you.

This isn't a diet, this is a lifestyle change for you. Go into your pantry and pitch all the stuff that you know is bad for you. No fast food restaurants. Keep healthy snacks on hand so you can indulge if you are feeling deprived.

You can do this, you can! I promise!

Eat healthily and go for a walk. Or go for a swim if there is a pool near by.

There are no magic methods.

You just need to burn off more calories and take a few less in.

Borrow a dog and go for a long walk this weekend.

Good Luck!! xx
