This is not quite relationship directed, more of an issue of those monthly 'lady problems'!

I suffer from quite uncomfortable periods and after 3 years of taking the pill i forgot how unbearable it was when i stopped a month ago. So when i started this week i found it extremely difficult to concentrate at work and found it was really affecting my ability to do pretty much anything other than roll around and moan!

Question is, does anyone know of any good ways to reduce the discomfort? Paracetamol really doesn't even tickle me, and i'd like to know if anyone has any personal tricks that work for them.

After we started having sex my wife found that a couple of good orgasms helped her cramps. It was best if we had sex on the morning of the day she expected to start. But her cramps were NOTHING like yours - I hope somebody suggests something that works for you!

A reader, anonymous, writes (6 August 2008):

Try plain ibuprofen first, if you have cramps. If ibuprofen doesn't work, try Pamprin, Midol, next time. If it still doesn't work, put a heating pad or hot water bottle on the painful spots, take a bath, or exercise. It might help to cut down on the amount of sugar and salt you eat. Also, you can try lying on your back on the floor with your legs elevated on the couch - it forces your uterine muscles to relax and is a natural pain reliever after ten or fifteen minutes.

Hope it helps.xx :)
