There's the point - she never saw the two of you together. She didn't know what you were up to at all, and most likely someone saw that you were together and told her, or he told her. Trust me, this is about him having to make a choice between you and her - she won. You need to back away now really.

That might be the reason. The other reason might be that his girlfriend didn't like that you two were joking around and talking that much (it could have been excessive), and she pulled rank and told him enough was enough.
Either way, you should probably look to spend time moving on from him. You can't really have him, and it'll just be more difficult if you don't use this opportunity to get over him.
