Wendyg agony auntHi there,

It may be that the injection isnt suiting you, I would pop along to your doctor and get it checked out. I was on the injection for 6 months and experienced, no periods, and dizzyness and headaches, but these were all from the onset of the injection, they didnt come half way though or anything it was the very next day after the injection.. after the first one they calmed down so thought would be okay, so had another one, but the same thing happend and i felt unwell, I couldnt take it anymore as it caused severe migraines, i do get migraine anyway but the injection made them worse! Ive not heard of the other symptoms being a "common" side effect, more so the rare side effects that can be experienced. so i would go along and get checked out, you shouldnt be in that much discomfort, and as you are, something isnt right and its probably the injection causing a few probs. i know When i was on the injection I was having it every 3 months, so have you only just started these symptoms after a recent shot ? I would talk this over with your gp, and maybe change your contraception. At least talking it over will give you some options and you will hopefully get to the bottom of it. If your due for another shot i personally wouldnt have it and would opt for something else, the injection is in a word a sudden surge of hormones being injected and sometimes some peoples bodies are not able to deal with it.

Take care x

I had one shot of it, and felt very depressed. I also had bleeding every day for six weeks.

There is an IUD that uses no hormones (most have hormones in) and this has worked great.

sjd agony auntDepo Provera = pure evil!!!!

I took depo provera twice. Once for 2 years, and then once for a year. I never had a problem while I was on the depo provera...my periods went completely away except for some random spotting every once in a while.

However, when I stopped taking depo provera the first time, within a month I started bleeding NONSTOP. I had a period every day for 4 months!! I also had lower back pain, severe stomach aches, and quite different temperment. I finally went to my gynecologist who tried to make my period stop with other forms of b.c. as a regulating medicing. He tried two pills, and a patch. None worked. He finally gave me a progesterone supplement and that regulated my periods finally.

I never had a problem after that until I started taking depo provera again (yes I was not the smartest). This time about 6 monhs into taking the depo shot....I started losing my hair! I had a full think head full of long hair. I clogged my drain every time I took a shower. I could fill a small bathroom sized trashcan full of hair in 3 showers. I finally realized it was because of the depo and stopped taking it. It has now been a year since I last got the shot and I have had depression, only 2 periods the entire year, and still continue to lose my hair even though it has for the most part stopped.

Depo provera has many negative side effects! I would go to your gynecologist and have him check you out and make sure they are all side effects of depo provera. Then, if you really wish to stay on the shot, I would definately take a calcium supplement if you are not already and ask your obgyn is there is anything you can do to lessen the side effects. From my experience though, I would just find an alternative method! I'm sorry you are going through this! I feel your pain 100%...I hope you can find something else! I learned my lesson twice...good luck to you and I hope you start feeling better soon!

Toria agony auntEvery type of contraception has its side-effects we have to bare, same as every person will suffer different reactions to them as all medications, maybe this type of contraception just isn't for you and you might be more suited to something else, we can only try and see, I would suggest going to your doctor and telling them what you are experiancing therefore he can either confirm that these are normal side-effects or if you need to change your contraception as I know when I was using contraception I had to try so many different kinds just to get one that gave me less side-effects and that suited me and reacted okay with my body.

Twiggygal agony auntHello there,

I went to WebMD to research side effects of Depo Provera, and side effects include: irregular bleeding, bloating, depression, and weight gain.

My question to you is when did you last receive a shot of this contraceptive? WebMD states that most women return to their normal periods and normal fertility 4-6 months after their last Depo Provera injection.

My suggestion to you would be to go to the doctor to explain your symptoms as they seem to be not related to the shot, but perhaps they are the "rare" side effects not listed as associated with Depo Provera and you may want to cease using this type of contraceptive.

Consult with your doctor to get a professional opinion is my suggestion.

Sincerely,

Twiggygal
