Could two sexually inactive people pass along an STD?

Question - (4 August 2009) 3 Answers - (Newest, 4 August 2009)
A male United Kingdom age 41-50, anonymous writes:

My fiancee and I are about to get married and have sex for the first time. We are both virgins and both come from a religious background with some pretty strong views on pre-marital sex. Neither of us has been sexually active with anyone beyond kissing (only on the mouth). There's been no groping, touching, stripping, outercourse, oral sex, anal sex or anything of that nature. Is it possible for either of us to have a transmitable STD which could be passed on to the other when we consumate our marriage?

k_c100 agony auntYou wont have any STD's, as the name implies....you need to have sex to transmit the disease!

Dont worry about it and just enjoy your wedding night together!

I hope this helps and good luck!

hemé'oono agony auntIt's possible but not probable. The only thing that I could think that either of you could possibly have is either herpes I (oral) or crabs/pubic lice which CAN be transmitted through an infested toilet seat or on infested bedding. I know someone who got crabs after a bus ride where she used a blanket to sleep under for her trip. However, crabs can only live off of the human body for 24 hours.

If you are worried about it, get a complete physical check up to make sure.

Good luck and congrats on staying pure in todays society. I did it 20 years ago and even then it was a major feat!

A female reader, Emilysanswers United Kingdom +, writes (4 August 2009):

Unless you have been rubbing yourself furiously on very dirty toilet seats, the chances of you having anything are pretty much zero.

If you have no symptoms then you could always just go and both get a chlamydia test as that is pretty much the only silent STD apart from HIV.

Your main issue is going to be pregnancy so use condoms or see if your fiancée wants to go on the pill.

You don't want to get pregnant too soon. What's the point in saving sex all this time if you don't get chance to enjoy it for a few years?

Good Luck!! xx
