Dear Cupid. I am 17 yrs old and am diagnosed with a benign tumor in my breast. They call it "fibroadenosis". I've also been on birth control for 7 months but have not told the doctor. Does anyone think me being on birth control has anything to do with my tumor?? thank you :)

A female reader, anonymous, writes (6 November 2011):

No, especially not a benign tumour, but you need to be honest with doctors because they have to use this information to give you treatment. Sometimes medicines can react badly with each other, or it might even stop your birthcontrol from working-your doctor can tell you about the risks ONLY if he knows what pills you are taking

person12345 agony auntThere is no known connection between birth control and tumors.

Why wouldn't you tell your doctor you were on birth control? They need to know EVERY medication you are taking. It's not as though they will tell your parents. They even know about NSAID pain relievers (ibuprofen, aspirin, etc...). You should not keep secrets from your doctor.

A reader, anonymous, writes (5 November 2011):

There is a link between the pill and some cancers but that is often because women on the pill are checked more regularly and so it is spotted sooner. I would tell your doctor and ask them thier opinion because they are the only person who would know. Hope you are better soon x
