A male reader, Compartmentalizing United States +, writes (2 August 2010):

A couple of things you can do here, I would ask him to stop, and be direct about it, especially if you have no interest, and/or you can kind of pull her aside and let her know that you are uncomfortable being around him and without saying you think he is staring at you, you say something like, I am uncomfortable with the way he looks at me, like I have done something wrong or something. That way, she doesn't get mad at you, and then she starts paying attention to the way he looks at you. If she does that, she will figure it out for herself without you ever having to say that her boyfriend is making googley eyes at you.
