Hi guys,

I was hoping for a bit of advice for a friend really (yes a friend).

She is off to Florida in December and is at the moment trying for a baby and the thing that concerns her is that she will be pregnant when she is over there and does not know the situation when it comes to going on the big rides.

If she got pregnant now by the time she got there she would be about 31/2 months does anyone know how safe it is to go on the rides at ths stage in pregnancy?

Thanks in advance.

Take care everyone and hope you are all well.xx.

DrPsych agony auntRoller coaster rides - the scary ones - are not recommended for pregnant women and most ride operators would refuse her admission for fear of litigation if something should happen. Basically if she is more than a few weeks pregnant then she can take a simple pregnancy test from the pharmacy and know her maternal status right away. Although the rides may not harm her personally, it maybe a risk factor for miscarriage and any abnormal pressure in the stomach region should certainly be avoided. Personally at 3 months pregnant I thought getting on the bus was a roller-coaster as I was very sick and very sensitive to motion at that time...a roller coaster would have been the last thing on my mind!

I would not recommend it. It is a risk that is simply not worth taking. I am sure that her doctor would advise against it.

Oblivia agony auntI think that first thing she should ask her doctor for advice. I suppose it depends on how she feels then, pregnancies could differ a lot from one another and the doctor will be able to tell about her sitaution. It might be safe for one but not for another. Generally I would believe though, that it is not safe. I am a big fan of amusement rides so I understand her dilemma, but still, if she is feeling worried about it already now, then I think she should not go on the rides. What if something would happen, unlikely or not, she would never forgive herself. Also the rides will still be around at a later point, and by the time she is there, happily pregnant, she might not feel it is such a big sacrifice to stay on the ground. Then she will have to plan for a new trip to the big rides after the baby is born :-)

Take care and best wishes to your friend.

Jamer70 agony auntHey flowergirl.

Well i read that its usually not good as the forces, trauma and fast moving can seperate the placenta, this has happened in bad car accidents so it not an impossibilty in normal rollercoaster rides. Though i read that its never been proved its harmful it hasnt been disproved either.

So though park owners dont allow it,, its usually up to the mother. But its never recommended to do it.
