Would this work in preventing pregnancy in the same way Plan B would?

A female United States age 30-35, anonymous writes:

Last night my boyfriend and I had sex and it turns out that right when he had an orgasm and was finished, the condom broke. I ran straight to the bathroom and cleaned myself off and made sure that I got most of it out, but I feel like I should panic. Today we went to the drug store looking for Plan B but I accidentally misread the box. I ended up getting a box of spermicide pills instead. I understood when i got home that they were intended for use BEFORE intercourse, but I used one anyway in the hopes that it was better than nothing.

Can anyone tell me whether or not this was extremely helpful or not? I know that Plan B is a high dosage of spermicides but I'm not sure.

person12345 agony auntFirst off, you're not supposed to swallow spermicide. I'm surprised that didn't hurt you a lot. Second off, plan B is only available at the pharmacy counter, not on the shelves. And no, spermicide will not work to prevent pregnancy after the act. Plan B is actually not a high dose of spermicide, it's a combination of some of the hormones found in birth control pills in a very high dose. You can take it up to 72 hours after you had sex and it will still be effective so you still have time to run out and get it.
