Would it be cool if I got our mutual friend to give me her number? We really hit it off but I didnt get her number at the end of the night!

Last Night I went out with a friend and we met up with his ex-girlfriend and a couple of her friends. Well, hit it off with one of her friends, but for whatever reason at the end of the night didn't get her number. Do you think it would be cool if I called our mutual friend and asked her if it'd be cool for her to give me her number?? then maybe i could shoot her a text or something later.
