writes:Does anybody know if braces turn a boy off. I mean I'm trying to get a boy to notice me and like me, but with acne, glasses, and bad hair, braces aren't going to help me very much. It kind of lowers my self esteem on how I look. I just don't know if boys like that on girls, if they are disgusted by that or if they plain just don't care. I was just wondering. One other thing, do braces really make you talk funny?

Hey braces are kind of a turn on. As for everything else you have to be happy with yourself and the right guy will come. I have the same problem but I am a boy and I still got a girl.

reader, anonymous, writes (8 August 2008): Hey, I just wanna say that I have bad hair, braces and acne all over my forehead... It really stinks that I am soooo tall next to most boys.... But I did have a little lisp at first, and my lips were swollen... But it did make me more confident to show my braces off then 2 cower away... My advice, use proactive for acne, herbal essences for the kind of hair u want, and consider contacts or surgery. I know it all works! GOOD LUCK!!!!

I have braces but a guy came up and asked me out yesterday, which means it really doesn't matter if you wear braces or not. It's the personality that settles it.
You just need to flirt alot, that's what i do ;)

reader, anonymous, writes (15 July 2008): i do agree that outer beauty has its own charm that attracts people. but that doesnt mean you can find love!!! first of all if you will, search for love.. you would never get it... its better to wait and let it happen on its own. if any guy dumps you for your braces...juts understand he is not the right guy...you might turn beautiful after removing braces but his attitude towards people would never change!!

well first off, just imagine how amazing you will look when your braces come off-and just imagine all the compliments u will get for having nice teeth!
as for acne- there is no cure for teenage spots- proactive doesnt work (my sister had acne and it never worked)
you could go to your doctor and ask to see a dermotologist like mys sister did, they gave her some really good creame which she swears by. The cream was called 'Durac'.
also, i was given a tip about teenage acne by an aunt-and it kinda helped. when you wash your face dont use soap (as it drys skin)and when you dry it- make sure its proper dryyy-no damp spots at all. and then apply sum mosit cream on ur face such as 'simple' cz simple has no perfumes or other chemicals in it and u can get it from boots/asda/superdrugs for about £2-3.
and bad hair days- i swear by GHD straightners...cost £120 but they are the best thing ever that happend to my hair-start saving girlie!
but i bet ur drop dead stunning anyways-so dont stresssss! theres plenty of time for boys:)

reader, anonymous, writes (11 July 2008): heya chickk!i know your question is about braces, but to be honest i think its more your self esttem here right?god i so know how you feel. ive had glasses for 12 years of my life and i know how much they loose your confidence but i got contact lenses back in april and they are the BEST thing i have ever got! maybe you should go for them? they really arent as bad as people first think and they give you so much more confidence its untrue! i wouldnt go back to the giggs lol.my hair, was TERRIBLE! i was looking at some old photos and my glasses and hair were actually awful. but this past year ive started really looking after it and its great :D i dye it and cut it every six weeks and i straighten it every day :D.without the glasses and the hair do i feel soooo much better! ive had more boyfriends this year, (as ive been more confident) than ive ever had in my whole life.as for the braces? dont worry about them! theyre very fassionable nowadayys, most guys have them aswell as girls, i know im gettin refferred to my authodontist for them on the 26th august and at first i was dreading it, but they cant be that bad really :Ddont let these things worry you hun. lighten up :D the hair? the glasses? the braces? it'll all bother you, it has done me! but theyre not all that bad! :D:Dgood luckk with the braces and everything =)x x x

they do not make you talk funny and they are perfectly fine with the looks wise. my current boyfriend has had them and doesn't mind them either.
not many people notice them now. only when i have the colours changed rather dramatically. if your getting them don't worry about it :)

I mean of course I am sure they knew I would look better without them but it had no bearing whatsoever in them liking me and pursuing me. And they were really hot, let me tell you. So there you go. No, it doesn't matter at all.
Now, about the acne and the bad hair. Have you tried using Proactiv? I have heard it works real well for the acne. You could also go to a dermatologist and get a prescription to treat it. Acne is CURABLE, especially with prescription medicine. I think that is something you should really look into. Ask your mom to take you...tell her how important it is for your self esteem.
And about the bad hair. Have you ever tried a chi? Its a ceramic straightening iron that will leave your hair looking gorgeous. That might be a good investment for you to make so that you can never again have bad hair days.

reader, anonymous, writes (11 July 2008): I'm 15 and I've only had braces for a month, but as far as I know nobody has been put off by them. My boyfriend said it's no different for him. As for the talking funny, nobodys commented on it. I'm happy to have braces, I can't wait to have them off though. It will be so much better with a nice smile :) They are worth all the pain.

As for the turn off I'm not entirely sure. I think guys are slightly scared of getting caught on them and thats what puts guys off of them- lols.
Well I have braces but I don't think guys mind too much, some people haven't even noticed and I have had them for nearly 10 months now. I am due to get the top one off in august and I'm getting my teeth whitened and it will be such a relief and I will have straight teeth, so I think they're definitely worth it. Also, if a guy likes your personality they can see past your looks, trust me.
