I don't see or speak to him.They've also told me that lately he's made the odd nasty remark about me. We had a nasty split and I never saw him after that - it was so bad I left the house we had and he kept it.It's a shame because in the beginning we were extremely good together. I just can't understand after so long he chooses now to make comments - why ?

 Well I don't know what caused the break up, but I'd be willing to bet it had something to do with the same part of his personality that made that nasty comment about you behind your back. He knows he's partially to blame for the break up and he hasn't come to terms with his own issues. It's easier to point fingers then to look in the mirror. He's using the back lash as a means of closure, at your expense of course. There's not much you can do about this, but if you ignore it he may stop quicker than if you start dickering over comments that he will simply deny (and now he'll know it bothers you). Try to rise above it and move on. It's the best thing.
