A female reader, anonymous, writes (1 February 2011):

it's not just the physical act that makes them tired. my boyfriend gets very sleepy after he cums from a blowjob, and he's not doing any of the work! it's because your brain releases chemicals during orgasm that make you feel sleepy. this is for guys and girls.

however this sleepiness can be overridden quite quickly depending on the situation like if you're having sex in a public place where you're scared of getting caught (not cos you find it kinky but because you're horny and can't wait but you don't actually want to get caught). I can almost gaurantee your boyfriend won't be dozing off after cumming in such a situation instead you're both likely to hurriedly get dressed as fast as you can and get out of the place!

Thanks guys. Interesting answers. Afterward, all my boyfriend wants to do is sleep, like he's on some sort of drug or something, he normally can't stay awake for very long. It's nice to know it's not just him. Why is it not as drastic for women?

I thought it was my personal problem. After orgasm I get tired and want to sleep. But my wife is the opposite. It always surprises us. We're used to it and enjoy it.

A female reader, chigirl Norway +, writes (30 January 2011):

chigirl agony auntIt depends on the person, some get tired, others don't. It's not as much tired as relaxed though. After an orgasm it is quite typical to feel relaxed and calm, and it's easy then to simply doze off or want to lay about for a bit and not do much.

Others again get active and energized. It's just dependent on how your body works, and it isn't gender specific. Women get relaxed after an orgasm as much as guys do. But don't forget that after a heavy session of sex you could feel strained and tired, and have used a lot of energy. Combining that with feeling relaxed and you could easily be dozing off.

A male reader, ivanichiaynus United Kingdom +, writes (30 January 2011):

ivanichiaynus agony auntIt's hormonal, for men.

The release of endogenous opioids (commonly known as endorphins) that are required for ejaculation and associated with orgasm also lead to that slightly euphoric state and drowsiness. It's worth pointing out that women experience this tiredness after orgasm too, but to a lesser extent.

There is a great deal of physical energy exerted during sexual activity as well, so that probably contributes to the overall feeling of fatigue. It only lasts a very short time, so if you really don't want to take a nap, just forcing yourself to stay awake will get you past that.

Ivan.

A male reader, anonymous, writes (30 January 2011):

Nature makes us that way. Young guys can't cum again right away for a few minutes or an hour after we cum. That gap gets longer as we get older until eventually we can't cum again for days when we are senior citizens.

We get drowsy right after cumming. But the post-orgasm drowsiness will pass in 10 or 20 minutes if we can manage to stay awake through it.
