This question isn't a normal question for this site, but please post it. i need help, and this is the only place I could turn to.

around 4 years ago, my family was in italy. We went to this museam (i don't remember which one) and this one painting stuck out to me, and stuck with me all these years. (by the way I'm 15 years old)

It was a portrait of this little girl, with short blonde hair and blue eyes. To my memory she was wearing a tiara or some sort of band around her head. She was around 5-7 years old. She was sitting. It was in an italian museam. When we went to italy we stayed in florence, but we went out of florence occaisionally.

This painting was the only one that has ever stuck out to me. it was the only one that has ever made me stop, stare, and think "wow, that is beautiful". we saw many famous paintings on this trip, including the last supper, but none of them had the effect on me that this one had.

I've made it my mission to find her, but I keep being lead to dead ends. i need help, by someone who actually knows the art world and could help me. if any of you know anything about this painting, or any way to help me, it would be greatly appreciated. Please, I need to find her. can any of you help me?

Aemita agony auntAww sweetie.. sorry to hear it was a dead end! I did found some other portraits, but none actually resemble your description.

It doesn't hurt if you take a look at them:

I'm sure it's none of them.. but hey, you never know, so i thought i might go with it.

As a side-note.. i know how you are feeling. I had a similar situation when i was young, with a certain painter. I knew his alias, because of his signature.. but i had a hard time founding out who he was.. it took me 6 years to track him down.. and to my surprise.. it was a She.. ^_^

Oh an before i forget.. one of the reasons as to why you're unable to find the portrait might be, because it could have been Either a 'travelling portrait' (meaning the portrait has its roots in some other place, but from time to time it's moved across the continent) OR the portrait was from a 'private collection' (meaning the owner lend the painting just for a certain amount of time, but then as you guess, it went back to his/her private collection).

Aemita-thank you! I haven't been able to look at all your links because i am on my ipod. The ones i've seen so far are not her though :(

It was just a normal portrait, and she was just sitting in a chair. There was a basic background to my memory, just a wall or a curtain, by the way, i believe the band went around her forehead. I believe she was wearing a green dress, but keep in mind this was 4 years ago. She had pale skin, as well. And..you know how older painting's faces or sort of chubby or round? Her's wasn't really like that, to my memory. She was a very pretty little girl.

Thank you all so much. I hope i find the painting some day...it really moved me. I'm not much of an art person, but the minute i saw that picture..i understood why people find works of art so inspiring.

Have you tried visiting a local museum or art gallery, as they are going to have an art expert on staff that may be able to help you. Try calling one up and asking if they do have an art expert on staff and if they do is there a possibility you may be able to meet that person at a time convenient to them to see if they can help you. Generally an art expert will know a lot more than just what is in their partiular gallery, at the very least be able to head you in the right direction to find the painting your looking for. Good Luck I hope you find your painting.

Aemita agony auntSo let's give it a try!

You mentioned Florence.. well there a lot of paintings and portraits that resemble your description.

It would be easier of a task if you could remember what that girl was actually doing? Or was it just a plain portrait? And if so.. can you remember what was she wearing, like colours of the clothes, the background or anything else that would help us identify her?

What was she wearing? Did it look like a dress?

Take a look at these.. and let me know if it was helpful..

OR.. like Honeypie has said, it could easily be a boy..

thanks! i don't really remember the color scheme...it just looked like a normal portrait. i mean, the colors were lighter i guess...but it just looked like someone was hired to paint a little girl. just to clairfy, the girls hair was at her chin.

Sadly, none of those paintings are the one I'm looking for. :(

i don't really remember the other pieces in the gallery. I remember there were a few statues, and it was in a circular room. i also remember the painting itself was sort of small, compared to the other paintings.

thanks for your help ;)

Honeypie agony auntIt's hard to say. It could easily be a buy since back in the day, boys would have long hair and wear what looked like dresses as well as the girls.

There are MANY versions of The Last Supper. The best known is perhaps Leonardo da Vinci's late 1490s mural painting which is NOT in Florence (Firenze) but in Milan. However MANY churches/monasteries have/had a version of this tableau.

Do you remember any other painting from the same gallery/museum? Artists?

What was the color scheme like (in the picture) sometimes you can go by certain blue/red and find the time period it was painted.

Here are a few painting of Italian artists with blond subjects:

It can be really hard tracking down a painting like this :) Specially with the HUGE selection Italy has to offer and the fact that it could be a boy/girl - the age isn't certain, the period isn't certain and the gallery/museum..

Maybe you could look up the various museums in Florence and see what they have to offer. This might actually be easier to do at a library then internet.

Good luck!
