Why is it that when a man does something, people say 'oh..he's just being a guy or bloke'?

It's like when a guy does something, people don't take it as serious as when a girl does something.

For example, when a female sleeps with multiple men, she's a slut. When a guy sleeps around, he's just 'being a guy'. How is this fair?

Yos agony auntWhat girls and guys do should be taken equally seriously. It is by most people, in general. And I've heard the phrase "oh, she's just being a girl" as often as I've heard "oh, he's just being a guy". Both sexes have typical behaviour that we all fall into from time to time.

As for your specific question... "For example, when a female sleeps with multiple men, she's a slut. When a guy sleeps around, he's just 'being a guy'. How is this fair?".

There's a very good (and also correct) biological reason for this, but it's too long and complex to explain here. If you are interested in reading about it send me a message here and I can send you some links etc that explain it. It's rather scientific and complex, but also fascinating.

I should add that this doesn't mean its more ok for man to do it than a woman! The fact that something is part of our biological programming doesn't make it 'right' or 'wrong'. Thats the most common misunderstanding people get from what the biology tells us. Rather it explains why many people (and cultures) feel that it is.

Devilish Angel agony auntI thought he was in highschool. I didn't know he was that young. What a sick woman! Ewww! I'm not even attracted to people a few months younger than me, let alone a few years!

You never heard of Mary Kay Letourneau? She was a teacher who not only had sex with one of her students but got pregnant twice! The kid was only 11 when the "relationship" started.

Devilish Angel agony auntI actually can honestly say I've never heard of a female pedophile before... My idea of a pedophile is one who messes with children fifteen and under. That's pretty strange...

A reader, anonymous, writes (25 January 2008):

It's not fair. Men and women should be held to the same high standard by society. The only explanation I can think of is the old saying: "repeat a lie enough times and people will accept it as the truth". For a long time most of the positions of power were held by men and they came up with that idea of having sex with anything that moved was normal as an excuse for their own inability to control themselves. They repeated this corrupt idea of sexuality until many people just accepted it as the natural way of men.

Of course I think I should point out that this dosen't extend to pedophilia. When that happens men are prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law (as they should) and beyond (which they should not), while women barely get a slap on the wrist.
